So all 2000 and up 722.6 units pretty much have all of the revisions and updates that make the current units stronger/more reliable than the early 722.6 units?

The reason I ask is because of the statement by blackmercedes that: "I think in 2000 they switched to the touch-shift style shifter and that there are tranny upgrades that came with it."
