Help!

I just brought in my 1999 ML320 for a "B" service and they said I should have my spark plugs and fuel filter replaced. The problem is they wanted over $750 for this service! WOW is that normal?
Can anyone tell me if this is something I can do on my own, and any hints on how to do it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
