Gilly has told us before that the OM606 uses both the Mass Airflow Sensor and the Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor to monitor the EGR.

All the computer has to do is watch for a decrease in flow across the MAF as it opens the EGR valve - it doesn't need to monitor the position of the valve itself. Sorry, but they got ya.
