Sounds like the bushings are gone. Just like sixto said, do a search you find more than you will want to know.
As an FYI, they are a royal pain to replace due to limited space, some cars (models) worse than others.
My suggestion, and I know this will make many puke, I cut them. One slice with a razor blade. I roll one end inside itself and then insert into the linkage arm. It doesn't seem to affect longevity or how well they hold or isolate.
Others grind off one side of the lip to help insert, while others use combnations of bolts, flat washers, lube and patience.
