W140 5-speed tranny (non-electric) & it's ratios
Will the 5-speed automatic tranny (722.502/508) fit from a 1992-1995 W140.032/033 (300SE/S320) into a non-V8 W124, and more importantly take the abuse from a C36 engine? I believe ONLY the V8 W124's had the wider tranny tunnel.
It should bolt-up since the 300SE/S320 used the M104 block; and since it's non-electric, should be easy to hook-up & adjust.
I'd like to go to higher rear-end diff (e.g., 3.46 or 3.69) but only with the 5th gear overdrive for a little more relaxed highway cruising.
I was contemplating the 5-speed automatic from an early 300SL (R129) but I heard those tranny's are VERY weak.
Also, what are the ratios for the 722.502 and 722.508 ?
Thanks,
:-) neil
