Why would a car salesperson jump to help someone driving a new car? They HAVE a car. When someone rolls up in an old one, then I'd be kicking the other sales staff to get to them first!

But, this works both ways, as someone has pointed out. When I had to have some roofing work done on my house, I made sure the Mercedes was tucked away in the garage next to the Subie and the lights were out. While the estimates were being done, we used the old Mazda and didn't let anyone see the Benz. I had a heating guy once jacking my estimate up when he realized I had a Mercedes.

When we went house shopping, we NEVER took my car. When we go looky-looing at million dollar showhomes for decorating ideas, we always take my car and then we don't get the bum's rush when we want to spend some time checking the house out.
