Actually, I stumbled into this from the diesel thread, doing a search on Holson Adi's postings - I was interested in his 300CD and whether he'd finally sold it. Really liked it, but couldn't see 3 300 's and a Subaru in one driveway with one driver.
I like the idea of the "general" group as a way of keeping irrelevant discussion out of the technical threads. (Ever check out the Motley Fool's boards? They're a mess, and need a moderator to clean out the tripe.)
In the general discussion, I can see the need of a moderator to keep down the flame wars, etc. (perhaps)
But I saw this sticky post at the top, and after my reply, the whole series....
I haven't seen any of the actions of the moderators that y'all are attacking, what they've consigned to the garbage heap, or whatever. Perhaps they are all appropriate. But the language of the sticky posts I find appalling. My "Sr. DaModFuhrer" was tongue in cheek. But after reading those posts, I'm left without words, though the adjectives "pedantic" and "overbearing" come to mind.
The folks that post here are a voluntary association. You don't take on the task of moderating a discussion in such a group without expecting discussion of your decisions. I wouldn't think the task would be appropriate for someone overly sensitive, and worse yet for someone with an anal retentive personality.
To the moderators, I suggest you review the admonitions in your postings with an ear to how they must sound to normal folks in our society, and how they reflect on yourselves.
One signs himself "le docteur." The fanciful diagnoses "recto-cranial inversion" and "cephalic impaction of the rectum" come to mind.
