I had the inner portion of a bushing rusted to the bolt which was causing the squeak, the bushings fell apart and perhaps the inner bushing was rubbing the metal on the car. A common squeak is one which the balljoint has no lubrication, ie the boot has been torn for a while and no grease remained.
