I'm in the process of replacing the water pump on my 300SE. I too have a slight crack on my cover so I need to replace it. I also have white stuff on my wires and some burning on the coil wire insulation. It looks like you also have white residue on your wires. Is that the case?

BTW, the pump has been a PITA so far.
