98 E320 4-matic with 83K miles. Detected a harsh shift from 2-3 and 3-2. Local shop found a fault that indicated an electrical connectivity issue; reconditioned wiring. This partially eliminated the horrible KLUNK when shifting up or down automatically (in W or S), but it's back and getting worse. No fault codes. Very vague, but any suggestions??? Really don't want to spend $2-4K replacing tranny.
