Well I would say that 2K CDN is way too much.
I sold my '79 300D for under 1K US and it had a new battery, started easily, had almost no rust and got 2K miles per quart of oil (had a little leak that never was fixed).

My fuel consumption in this non-turbo diesel was 22-23 around town and 23-24 on the highway.

I would look at getting something is better shape (not much rust and starts easily) for your 2K CDN.
