If your 600SEL is a 1993, 1994, or 1995 model, then the wiring harness is certainly bad (or going bad) if it is original.

However, it could be more than just your engine wiring harness.

Your engine has a throttle actuator (maybe two, I'm not sure), which has a wiring harness which suffers the same fate. And, the ASR function is one of the functions controlled by the throttle actuator.

What shop are you taking your car to, by the way?

I live in Diamond Bar, and drive 51 miles (one way) to a shop in the San Fernando Valley called Mr. MB Motors. Do a search on Mr. MB Motors, and you will find a large number of guys who take their cars to him all over the area. His knowledge is such that the local MB dealers take cars to him that they can't diagnose.
