Perhaps we should back up and advise Bill that he first needs to find if there is a charge in the system. This can be done with a/c manifold gauges to measure the static charge. Something like 70 psi should indicate a full charge. If there is no charge, the source of leaking should be found.

Bill, post back with the results if you decide to tackle it yourself. There's a whole lot of "ifs" when diagnosing the system.
