i recall mine was round. the sensor end was not protected at all.
the 1st picture is certainly different looking. the plug end looks the same though. grr, i'm gonna have to take the glove compartment out again.

it is kind of annoying the heat is either on or off - no in between. same with a/c.

edit: your second pic is exactly the same as mine. the part i broke was that little round piece off the sensor tip end . it seems to be missing from your pic as well.
