Sounds good! Lots of variables here, though. Does the seller know the car? If he/she knows the car this can hinder you're price negotiations. If the seller doesn't know what he has then talk about all the things that will need attention in order to lower price. How much do you have to spend? A manual transmission is simpler and highly desireable by many. If the car really is perfect than 4500 is not too much to pay. If the miles are accurate it also probably hasn't had a lot of wear items replaced, and no matter how nice a 20+ year old car is, things will require fixing. Bottom line is it's up to you. How much is it worth to you?
I would go there with whatever you are willing to spend and take out $3500 cash (assuming it is as nice as you say) and offer it to him. Remind him of the things that are going to need to be fixed and then go from there. Good luck ---keep us posted
