The cheapie 74-76mm wrenches (at least those in my local stores) have the wrong number of flutes, 15 instead of 14. I crammed it on the filter anyway but it lost it's grip under pressure and just spun uselessly (this was trying to remove the old filter -- I don't know how tightly it was installed).
The wrench I bought was fiberglass or something though, maybe a metal version would cram on well enough to bite in.
You can also buy also buy various universal-style wrenches for less than $20 that would probably work if you get one that will work in tight quarters (pretty tight squeeze in my car).
But I like the simple pleasure of a purpose-built tool for a few extra bucks.

At least I hope I do, it hasn't arrived yet.
