I doubt that the car would run if the winding ratio was too far off. If the ratio is much lower it will put a strain on the ignition module. MOST coil failures comes fron a weak secondary ignition system, ie; dist cap, rotor, plug wires where the system is always working at max output. Even plugs gapped at .060" can cause problems if the system is weak!
