Well I ended up getting the 1997 E320. I am thinking it is probably the blower regulator. Is it hard to get at on these models. After doing some looking on this forum, it looks as if you need to buy the new updated blower motor, and adapter plate as well as the regulator. Is there any way to just buy the old regulator?
