thanks again engatwork. I am glad that it seems like a good engine. I traveled 200 miles to purchase this car from it's original owner. it's a 1983 m-b 300d with 155,000 miles. the owner had the mb maintenance booklet with all worked having been performed for the 20 years he owned the car.
