I'm not sure why this turned into a "beat on IanMB thread", but I wouldn't sweat it if I were him. That said, I think excessive speed, regardless of the vehicle, is very dangerous unless carried out in controlled conditions (read as "on a track") with safety gear, fire personnel, etc. Nearly all states have tracks where cars can be raced under conditions safe enough to do so. There are far too many variables on regular roads, whether rural or not, (road condition, critters, other vehicles, etc.) and to disrespect them is to play with your life, or worse someone elses. The island I live on is known for the huge Live Oak trees that are right along side of the road. About every six weeks someone learns how hard they actually are after losing control speeding. It's shame. And I'm no bore, either. On a flat water day I am very likely to pass you by at 70+mph in my boat...
