Had what sounds like the same problem about a year ago. Pain was so bad I couldn't take it and refused to take drugs to cover it up. Operated and removed part of the disc and was the best thing I ever did. Pain was gone almost immediately, with some lingering aftershocks, but all in all, would do it again. Just check the rep of your doctor just as you would a bodyshop who works on your Benz.
