That was one of the problems with it, basicaly useless short of what people call surpresing fire, and I call wasteing ammo, usually. Though you could drop the strap from the rear, extend it out, and stand on it to hold the front of the rifle down..
The one I learned on was a genuine stuff in a bag and take home from a Marine sometime around Korea. It's gone now, offered them two grand for it and they wouldnt sell. Probibly would have ended up in prison with my luck. But it was a beauty, once in a lifetime.

If'n I was going to shoot military comp, it'd be with a springfield.
I know a guy that collects them(and garand/m-14's(1A). Great rifles..

I've gotten pretty fond of that old K98 though, especialy cheap as it is. Kinda like an old Mercedes diesel, you can't hardly buy a rifle today as well made, but there just not worth a lot monitarily. Suits me..
