You could try some bench-testing with a spare battery I suppose.
You may be correct on assuming they combined the 2 functions on a 99. My diagram shows 2 connectors, nut my diagram is for a 97 and newer C Class, you'd think they'd be the same.

I assume you are listing the wires in some kind of order (from one side of the mirror connector to the other.
On the garage door opener, the #1 connector is the brown ground wire, so that seems like a "freebie", I'd assume that is correct. The #2 wire is for interior illumination, to "backlight" the homelink buttons, and the #3 wire is the power wire (hot with key on), so you could try jumping power to #3 and ground to #1 and see if the buttons light up when you push them. Possibly the autodim will work then too, but I wouldn't guarantee it because there are these other inputs required and I don't know if the mirror dimming will work correctly without them.
