On my W124, I can easily pull down gently on the sunroof cover at the front when the roof is open a couple of inches and two metal clips (attached to the panel) release from holes in the metal frame.
However, I'm not so sure on my W202 (a recent purchase) that the same fitting exists. I've tried using the same technique and I feel I'm going to distort if not break the panel. The clips just don't seem to want to release.
Peter, are you describing a W202, or are all the sunroofs the same (I guess they're all made by Webasto, although my W202 one has many more plastic parts than the earlier W124 one
)
Let us know Babtahi if you're successful using Peter's technique and I'll pull a bit harder...
