thanks, Tim, I will give your sugestion a try tomorrow. I think I made my mistake by removing the chain guide and tensioner prior to feeding in the new chain. With the new master link about 90 degrees from where it was supposed to be, I could not see the timing mark on the chain sprocket where I thought it should be. Your answer makes sense.
