Transmissions whine 101
A whine in park or neutral that increases with RPM could be a plugged filer or a worn oil pump. If you hear the whine when shifting from neutral to drive and back at a stop it
Could be a bad torque converter turbine. A planetary whine will change pitch or disappears when the transmission shifts .a planetary whine will also disappears in direct drive 1:1 ratio;4th gear in your car. If the transmission makes a whine in all forward gears you have a major problem or it is not transmission related. An engine thrusts bearing failure will make a similar whine. You can isolate the transmission by disconnecting the torque converter from the flywheel. If the whine disappears it is Trans if not engine
