Granted it's an apples to oranges comparison, but look at all the vehicles, such as the fox body mustang in v8 trim, that DO benifit a great deal from something as simple as removeing the silencer in the air box. It never hurts to give some thought to something and not dismiss it out of hand because XXX would have done XXX if it needed to be done.
Apples to oranges, yes, but..
(note that my car has and will probibly keep the OEM air filter)
