These thermostats are designed to fail open. Odds are very high that replacing the thermostat for these symptoms will produce no change.

Have you yet checked the coolant temp? Have you checked the aux fan fuse? Have you hand spun the aux fan to see that it is free?

Wait until the vehicle is cooled off before removing the radiator cap to check for adequate coolant.
