The W210s that I have seen are already fitted with Euro pattern lights as stock equipment in the US. At least I know this is true for the 97s. Drive it up to a wall and see if the light is Euro pattern.
As I understand it, there would not be any real advantage to changing the headlights on the car, unless the 96 was not the same pattern as later models.
