Fisherman The original transmission was completely controlled by vacuum. When you say a newer tranny what year?
I believe I misspoke. It's a younger transmission, presumeably... It's not got a mechanical linkage on it. Same year, I believe.

jdc1244, you make me a happy man... I'm not sure what changed, maybe there was a stuck something or another somewhere that freed itself up, but I love the way it shifts now... I gotta say, when I noticed the change, the change itself was alarming. Generally when driving function changes quickly, it's not a good thing.

I wonder if idling it for so long could have done something. The temp guage was on 80 when I finally drove it. Does the tranny warm up when the car's just idling?

What could cause the different states of function that way? Anyone know these trannys well enough to know?
