It happened. After observing strange behavior from the tranny I took it to the dealership for a check. They indicate that it needs a new (rebuilt) unit...$5300. Ouch. I bought the car 6 months ago for 16,500 so this seems like a bad idea to me. Is there any hope of Mercedes assuming any liability for the costs? It has 90 k on it and is otherwise quite well cared for.

Anyone have any comparable experience??
