Had the same problem with my 300SEL hood. A body shop wanted to charge me for 2 hours to fix it. I fixed it myself by adjusted the two posts with the rubber caps a little, then cleaned the latches and lubricated them. It took me less than 30 minutes to get the hood to lineup perfectly. Now my car looks 10 times better and I’ve noticed a marked improvement in acceleration, braking and handling. Radio reception has improved too
. Problem was the post was too low on the low side and too high on the high side. Play with them a little and if you don’t have a problem at the hinges, this simple procedure should fix it. The shop CD also has a more comprehensive procedure on aligning the hood with clearance specs. Good luck.
