Fortunately there is a pointer Even if iginition timing cannot be physically adjusted, there's still a need for a reference when working on the valve train.

Follow the cable from the EZL unit behind the left headlight down to the crank pulley. The left edge of the bracket into which the cable is attached is the pointer. It's a little to the left of the 1 o'clock position. The 0|T mark on the crank pulley is the TDC indicator.

A 1998 300E is a really rare car.
