Hello

I too have a misfire problem when starting cold. All glow plugs are new and OK. The engine always starts fine, even in minus 30 degrees Celcius. On startup it is «silent» and smooth as long as the glow plugs stay on (there is up to 60 seconds afterglow on that model). As soon as the glow plug go off (easy to see at night when the lights get brighter), it becomes noisy and starts to misfire, smoke and smell unburned fuel.

The problem is more accurate in cold weather and, I guess, with winterized fuel.

Chain stretch is less than 1 degree and static timing in right on the spot. No error code from the EDS control unit. Compression needs to be checked, but it takes no oil and it starts easily.

The injectors have been rebuilt 50 000 km ago and it didn't cured the problem. In fact, the engine is noisier with the new injectors.

I've changed the rubber and copper seals of the delivery valves without much improvement.

DDH, you are right : it is an embarrasment to start it up if anybody is around!
