The wood is held on with two small screws on the bottom.

Radio and ashtray must come out first.

After screws are removed from the wood piece, it slides down and out.

The fiber-optic hub is in back and you will need needle nosed pliars to access the main bulb as well as the 'spokes' on the hub. Some switches may have their own internal light, although I can't tell you which on an '83. Follow the F.O. lines to figure that out. Or pul the main bulb and see which lights go out.

The climate control unit may need to be loosened as well to gain access, but it does not need to be removed.
