Those sealed batteries (VRLA) as far as I know are just for certain models, Ones that come to mind immediately are the new SL R230 (only the one in the trunk I believe), and the new E W211.
They may do fine in an ML, by my recollection they looked like they would fit, but not sure. You could also try an aftermarket gell-cell, but I really recommend the MB battery.
You should be able to get about 4 years minimum on the MB battery. Once in awhile of course one will quit early, not too often though.
Don't know what your rep would be able to say or do. To contact yours I would ask the dealer when he is expected to visit next and if you could set up an appointment, then just hope it's a day that will work for you.
