Fixed Stuck Gas Cap

Wife told me today she couldn't get the gas cap to go back on correctly on the E320 wagon. I fooled with it and couldn't figure it out either. I searched and searched the forum notes and couldn't find anything useful. Finally I stumbled into Fastland and found the picture shown below. The picture showed me just what was wrong... somehow the plastic tabs and their metal prongs had spun out of alignment. I sprayed a little lube on the sucker, turn it upside down and held the handle in my vice, used pliers and small screw driver to hold up the metal prongs, and was able to use a free finger to spin the plastic part back into place. Hope this helps someone. Best,
