The funny thing is, because the original gas cap was starting to corrode, I bought the now loose one from the dealer about a year ago. He had the metal-backed one (as shown in the picture above) and the original looking, plastic-backed one, which I bought. Any opinions on...

- which version is better, the metal-backed or plastic-backed
- how to avoid this type of problem in the future
