Tough question MBenz.

I think that will depend on your State of temporary residence. Depending on what State you call home for the year or so, you may have to pass a smog inspection if you intend to register it, which your Euro car may not pass. You may just have to keep your NL tags on the car, and expect to explain your registration at odd times to the nice men in blue uniforms (or green, or tan or ...).

If you have the means, you could buy another car here in the States and put vanity plates on that one. Then import it back to NL when you leave. It's probably easier taking one out of country than it is bringing one in.
