Those heads are very difficult to work with. What is wrong with the engine? Post a few pics.

In terms of the engine, 7 years ago just before the car was laid up, the previous owner had a couple of head gasket failures, which I understand is not uncommon on these engines.
What I have been told so far and I have yet to check it out is as follows.......it would be interesting whether this makes sense to you guys!
In an effort to sort out the blowing head gaskets an engine shop installed some oversized helicoils into the block and over torqued the heads. This apparently caused the cylinder walls in the block to bulge out slightly as the helicoils have been put in very close to the edges of the cylinders. I have been told that you can only detect the damage with a micrometer.
They claim that this damage then caused massive coolant losses and they also mentioned something about the block becoming porous.......whether this is the case I'm not sure yet.
But it has got me thinking, could the block be rebored and have cylinder liners put in to get rid of the distortion?
I have also been told that the heads themselves are fine.
In time I imagine that the true state of the engine will be determined.....thats likely to be a long way off as I imagine that any work on this engine will not be cheap!!!!!!
Many thanks
