I'm not intimately familiar with this particular engine, but I fully expect that you can remove the balancer/pulley portion without withdrawing the heavy center piece from the front of the crankshaft. There should be three bolts that hold the balancer/pulley to the heavy center piece. Remove them and drop off that portion. Mark everything before removal and replace in their original position to prevent vibration.
