I'm just about to do this job, any hints would be appreciated! Did you remove the air assembly to make sure you could stop the engine? Or did you try the vaccuum check to see if the stop lever moved?

I know my ignition is fouled with oil fromt he leaking valve, does yours have this same issue? That could cause an electrical component to misbehave. Brake cleaner is the way to go according to the archives.
