I had the same problem with a brand new A/C Delco compressor I ordered from ackits. New stiff German belt, and new compressor = tight fit. We put the belt on the compressor as much as it would allow and gave the starter a quick turn with the ignition key. Belt jumped onto the compressor, happy day!
