I should have also mentioned earlier, there is an "effective serial number range" for this modification:

163.154 (ML320) up to A266446
163.172 (ML430) up to A265965
163.174 (ML55) up to A266484

Furthermore the job more than likely was NOT being done on schedule, as it is due every 60,000 miles OR 4 years (truck is a 99 so in the very least should have been done last year at some point, unless it is a 98 build date, in which case it was due in late 2002. So you were at least a year overdue, probably more.

The pump replacement isn't a requirement for the filter upgrade. MB lists different warranty times based on if the pump and filter is being replaced/upgraded, or if it's just a filter upgrade.
