just bought a 1983 500sl-- lots of questions
Wow! This is a great MB resource! After about six months of searching I finally found a 1983 500 SL with the AMG package. The car has just under 60k. The car was brought over from Europe to the United States when it was new. It has the small bumpers and the rectangular head lamps. Is there a way to tell if this was really an AMG car. The owner never really said much about it. I will need to find an owners manual for the car, as I do not have one. I'm not sure how long that will take. Does anyone know how much oil the engene should have, as I want to change it right away. Also, at this milage, is there anything else that you would do to the car. The car was hardly driven if at all in the last two years. Is this an interface moters like the 380s and 560s? What is the horse power of the 500 engene, I have seen very few in my area. Finally, what does one do about insuring such a car? I suppose that it is too young for classic car insurance, however I want to make sure that it is completly covered for it's true market value. I will try to post some pictures as soon as I can. Is there any good books that were published about my car that I should pick up? I don't have experience working on Mercedes cars, but I'm willing and able to learn.
Thank you very much for any information that you can provide. I'm sorry about the long post.
