You can unsnap the headliner section on the underside of the sunroof itself (there are 4 or 5 snaps, takes a good tug to disconnect them) then slide the headliner panel itself back towards the rear of the car, and see what is broken. PROBABLY (no guarantee) it's the "sliding jaw" on the affected side, when this happens you usually need the "bridge", which ties the two sides together, the "buckle" which connects the cable to the "bridge", and most guys would replace the cable (inner cable) at the same time. Gets very costly, depending on labor times. NOT the kind of thing that a novice can usually tackle alone, better to have experienced hands doing it, but you can always sneak a peek. I'm gonna have some 124 sunroof parts on EBay soon, but nothing you need.
