With the ashtray out, there are 2 screws in the back of the ashtray hole. Remove the screws and remove the piece which sits there. Unplug the electrical connections. Does it look broken?
Replace it from any 300D or 240D of the vintage of your vehicle.

rear Dom light

the light is missing , well half of it is there only the ground half and i can't see the + wire in the hole, so my ? is what side does the wire come from , facing the rear of the car

I haven't pulled mine, and as the plastic is 20+ years old, I will have a look in my parts car if I get home before dark tomorrow.
