NO Mercedes takes 5W-30. From what I have seen every European car takes at least xxW-40. We used to have a '99 VW Passat 1.8 Turbo, and the owner's manual said only to use 5W-30 for minor topping off, not for full oil changes. I also knew someone who had the V-6 Passat and his manual said the same thing.
