All of the steering components need to be checked for something buckling/binding...

I have heard struts make a popping/thumping sound when the steering was turned as sharp as it would go... As in turning into a parking space...

But have a [good] mechanic check it out anyway so that if something is breaking or coming loose you can avoid massive injury/damage...
