I believe I would crimp it some more. Did you move the "die" on the tool around to the position with the "vee" and have the vee over the pin? You are at a point now that you can use a ball peen hammer and finish it up if you do not want to continue with the tool.

Everyone I have ever done with the tool you would have been hard pressed to tell it from the others.
